WNCA MAJOR WORK PERMIT BOCC Packet for September 9, 2020 Meeting

Howard Berna, Sarasota County's Water and Navigational Control Authority:

"The proposed project will result in the protection of environmentally sensitive lands and floodplains, conservation of natural resources, and maintain water quality and open space.

An alternative use of the property that utilizes the currently zoned RSF area on the property would result in far greater environmental impacts than the current proposed work "

Sarasota County Staff Report on Zone change

"The proposal for rezoning is to take the disturbed upland portions of the parcels and designate them as the RSF-1 district and to place the Mangrove Swamp and Tidal Marsh habitats in the OUC district.  This reduces the overall size of the RSF district by 0.42 acres and increases the ouc district by 0.42 acres.  The OUC district is indended to preserve and protect native habitats and this approach provides a better environmental outcome than what currently exists on the parcels today." (p. 17)

Presentation for the Planning Board

Although this presentation indicates that both the Northern and Southern parcels are being rezoned, the Ginsberg-Klemmts have limited all zoning and project activity only to the Southern parcel.
